Pathfinders – funding innovative new GGR approaches

CO2RE’s annual Pathfinders competition is funding innovative new GGR approaches. Pathfinder projects will fill research and innovation gaps by funding early-stage innovations with the potential for high impact, in particular addressing gaps in the wider GGR Programme. Funds will support studies to the point that they are well placed to apply for larger scale R&D sponsorship through other channels.

Pathfinder projects will become part of the stakeholder family of the GGR Programme, and the Hub will help facilitate their engagement and participation. All the projects will report to the Hub, as a contribution to the Hub’s knowledge base.

The Pathfinders competition is currently closed. A third Call is expected in Autumn/Winter 2023/24, which will be announced on this page and via our newsletter and social media. You can find out more about the Pathfinders Calls 1 (Autumn 2021) and 2 (Winter 2023) below.

Pathfinders Call 2 (Winter 2023) – closed

CO2RE recently invited applications for new funding to research ocean or methane Greenhouse Gas Removal. The call is now closed.

Projects which strategically address part of a removal method (such as capture, purification, or novel approaches to storage or conversion) are being considered, as well as full-chain methods.

This Pathfinders invitation for applications was an open call seeking to fund UK projects of up to one-year’s duration at a cost of up to £50,000 each.

Pathfinders Call 1 (Autumn 2021) – closed

In Autumn 2021, CO2RE  invited proposals to explore new methods for capturing greenhouse gases from ambient air or the marine environment and durably storing or converting them.

Projects which strategically address part of a removal method (such as capture, purification, or novel approaches to storage or conversion) were considered, as well as full-chain methods.

This first Pathfinders invitation for applications was an open call seeking to fund UK projects of up to one-year’s duration at a cost of up to £50,000 each. Read about the four innovative winners.

Winning projects – Pathfinders Call 1

CO2RE is funding four innovative GGR projects as part of its Pathfinders Call 1. The projects explore new methods for capturing greenhouse gases and durably storing or converting them. Find out more about our funding opportunities
