Dr Joseph Stemmler

Joseph is a postdoctoral research associate in the CO2RE Hub at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at Oxford University. He also holds additional affiliations with Oxford Net Zero, the Institute of New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School, and the Economics of Scaling Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage group at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
Joseph’s research lies at the intersection of microeconomic theory and environmental economics. His current research assesses the efficacy of environmental policies in encouraging carbon dioxide removal and reducing carbon emissions through the lens of economic theory. His previous work studied the incentives for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) provided by Internal Revenue Code Section 45Q of the Inflation Reduction Act.
Joseph holds a PhD in Economics, a B.S. in Mathematics, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
