CO2RE Artists: James R Price

the Ffilm School

the Ffilm School comes to Dyfi this August. FfS is a different film school: where we use free systems we’ll always have access to, assembling kit that others overlook, working together to make cutting edge cinema to be widely seen and have real impact.

FfS offers docmaking education to people who usually can’t take part, by making this a paid opportunity. You don’t need specific experience or qualifications to become one of six conspirators. We’re interested in people who have a connection with this land, its communities’ lives and minds. That isn’t limited to those born or with heritage here.

this Land to come, the film we’re making, looks at how coming practices used to suck carbon from the air will impact this Land and its communities. 15th to 29th August we’ll gather material from our base at Bwlch Corog, south of Machynlleth, centring the standpoints conspirators and those they know and meet offer. In the months following conspirators are paid to weave these elements into cinema, made with community peer review, making film that has a life on the festival circuit and beyond. Make it better.

About the Artist - James R Price

James R Price (he/him) is a Tyne-based artist-doc filmmaker, educator and researcher. James’ work today is concerned with anti-extractivist modes of documentary filmmaking and its education; that is, to find, strengthen, and spread ways of doc filmmaking that might improve the wellbeing of future generations (human or otherwise).

James has been working with film since the late 90s. A National Film & TV School graduate, James made work for C4 and BBC, Tate and the Southbank, and numerous artist and academic collaborations. In recent years his work has synthesised his teaching and art practices, finding inspiration in the experimental and cocreational practices he developed with AV/live-cinema artists the Light Surgeons since the early 00s. Viewing education as a site for braiding better ways of working, rather than as preparation for the often unhealthy state of contemporary filmmaking, James is researching how to practice anti-extractivist ways of working, with the aim of bringing them to prominence, aiming at post-extractivist futures.
