This is the fourth in our series of online webinars, GGR Insights, presenting the latest research and debating what is needed to enable the sustainable scale-up of greenhouse gas removal (GGR) in the UK.
As open-air demonstrations of carbon removal methods proliferate, this webinar will explore the roles that communities can play in submitting promising technologies to place-based trials. While it is now commonplace for funders to require carbon removal projects to consult with communities, local knowledge and experiences are still too often excluded from research and decision-making.
This webinar will ask what we can learn about place-based approaches from a recent marine carbon removal trial, in St Ives Bay, UK. The webinar will hear from leading figures in the community response and CO2RE researchers who have been studying controversy over the proposed test of the alkalinity enhancement method.
While it is vital communities are consulted about carbon removal projects, the webinar will also ask: how might carbon removal projects advance community-led climate action?
We are delighted that the following speakers will be joining us:
- Dr Rob Bellamy, University of Manchester and CO2RE Hub (Chair)
- Senara Wilson-Hodges, Keep Our Sea Chemical Free
- Sue Sayer MBE, Cornwall Seal Research Trust
- Dr Laurie Waller, University of Manchester and CO2RE Hub
A recording of the webinar is now available. You can watch it below or on our YouTube channel, where you can also find recordings of the other webinars in our GGR Insights series.
The next GGR Insights webinar takes place on 19 November and will focus on monitoring, reporting and verification. Read more and sign up here.
